About Memphis
Memphis sits on the bluffs above the Mississippi River in the southwest corner of Tennessee. It is known worldwide for its music history, from Beale Street and Sun Studio to Graceland, and for the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel. The city is also a major river and distribution hub, and its neighborhoods stretch from the riverfront and Midtown out to Raleigh, Hickory Hill and Cordova.
Memphis has a large Black community, and the neighborhood barbershop is a familiar fixture here. Shops are scattered along corridors such as Knight Arnold Road, Hacks Cross Road, Raines Road and Summer Avenue, so a regular chair is often a short drive from home.
This guide lists 24 Black-owned barber shops in Memphis, TN, each self-reported as Black-owned through its Google Business Profile. For every shop we note the street address, rating, accessibility details and how it takes customers, so you can narrow the list before you head out.
